A man has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal crash on Interstate 5 near the Pacific Highway, authorities said Sunday.

The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m.

Friday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in the area of Interstate 10 and Highway 101.

Authorities said the vehicle, a silver Toyota pickup, was traveling north on Interstate 10 near the intersection of I-5 and Highway 1 when it struck a semi-truck.

The semi-trailer then hit a tree before it flipped onto its roof, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree and the truck to roll over and hit a utility pole.

A man was killed in the crash.

The woman who was driving the truck was taken to a local hospital and later released, authorities added.
