A Georgia Highway Patrol trooper has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man he stopped for a routine traffic stop.
The incident took place on Thursday in Georgia’s southern city of Jackson, where the trooper had just been stationed.
The trooper has not been identified.
The trooper told investigators he feared for his life and that he had not been doing anything wrong when he shot the man in the head.
He said he feared the man had a weapon and that there were weapons in his vehicle.
He was not charged with murder, but investigators are investigating the incident and his actions are under investigation, Georgia State Police said.
The US military has said it is conducting a review of the incident.
